International Clan Society

The International Clan Donnachaidh Society was founded in 1893 as  part of an effort to renew and maintain old family ties and to provide a place to gather and enjoy the company of those closely associated with the Clan. In Gaelic the name Donnachaidh (pronounced  Donnahee) means Duncan and Clan Donnachaidh means Children of Duncan.  The pre-eminent name in the Clan is Robertson with Duncan and Reid following up closely.

In Scotland The Society's offices are adjacent the Museum and Shop, maintaining and renewing the family bond uniting the clan.

In 1967 the Clan Donnachaidh raised enough money world-wide to buy a site at Bruar and opened the first purpose-built Clan Museum in Scotland in  1969.

In 1993 and 1994 clansfolk again donated, nearly £60000 to create a Gift Shop adjacent to the Museum where associated souvenirs are on sale. Profits are ploughed back into the Museum.

In 1995 the Museum was awarded full registration status by the Museum and Galleries Commission.

Currently the museum is in desperate need of funds to expand and maintain the records of the Clan - in essence maintain your family history. Please donate if you can to preserve this important institution. Equiries about donations to the museum can be made directly by clicking here: Clan Donnachaidh Society - Scotland
